Welcome to Sunnyside Common Sense!

Hello, my name is Susan Heavilin and I live in the Sunnyside area of Bonita-Sunnyside. In the past, I wrote an online newspaper much like this one in another city that also had limited news. That online newspaper helped connect the community to local and surrounding area news, upcoming events and new friends.

It has come to my attention that there are not a lot of resources to learn about happenings in this area. Friends and neighbors are often in the dark about many things that might have an effect on their lifestyle . . . information that stays “under the radar” or hidden from the community. Then once it is discovered, it is at times too late and nothing can be done to stop it. Working together, we might hopefully be able to get a jump start on these issues.

There are many social clubs that you might not have heard about but something is probably out there that piques your interest. You can read about them here. And if I miss a few, please let me know! These clubs can send SCS news about what they are doing within their membership and announce upcoming events.

Community organizations such as Sweetwater Community Planning Group (SCPG) are a great way to discover what might be in the works for your neighborhood. It meets once a month and has a strong association as an advisory board for the County of San Diego.

I don’t know everything that is going on, how could one person? But we all know a little something and maybe together we can help educate each other. Most entries will have a comment section below the story where you can jump in with your two cents. Maybe you know the answer to a question asked. Maybe you are more comfortable reading what others write. It’s all good!

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR can be about anything you wish to share with others. LETTERS FROM THE EDITOR are letters from me and strictly opinion pieces. In case I need to say it, foul language or name calling will not be tolerated here.

I ask for your patience as I gather information and get this community newspaper on its feet. It will start slowly and get rolling quickly as people realize its value and start sharing activities and stories within it. I am currently publishing five days a week—Monday through Friday—and put up three items a day. Check it out daily as you drink your morning coffee!
