SCPG Votes Down Self Storage Facility

The Bonita-Sunnyside Library Community Room was packed last night. It was the October meeting of the Sweetwater Community Planning Group. Forty plus Bonita residents showed up to show support for the denial of the Secure Space Self Storage proposed for 5780 Quarry Road.
Many of those residents spoke against building this 3-level, 132,425SF structure with 70 RV parking spots in rural resident-zoned Bonita. One speaker asked for a hand count of those who wanted the Storage Facility built. Not a hand in the room was raised.
Residents applauded each speaker after they were done talking. There was a lot of energy in that room last night. Several speakers reminded the SCPG 15-member board that they were elected to act as the voice of the residents.
The Board voted unanimously to deny the construction of the Secure Space Self Storage on Quarry Road. And the residents were happy!
Community opinion was clearly against this project whose developer did attempt to respond to community input, unlike the developer of the Ace Storage next to the firehouse. Overall, represents another example of wrong/unwanted light industry project not in the community's rural residential character .
