On Tuesday, October 1, 2014, the Sweetwater Community Planning Group will be voting on whether or not the group agrees to allow the Secure Space Self Storage proposed for 5780 Quarry Road. Their suggestion will be passed on to the County of San Diego for the final decision.

The meeting will begin at 7pm at the Library Community Room located at 4375 Bonita Road, Bonita.
At the September 3rd meeting, Tim Karp of Insite Property Group presented the project again. He mentioned repeatedly how many times he had come before the group. During public comments, I told Mr. Karp that he had to come on so many occasions because the people of Bonita don't want it and don't need it. There are already 34 storage facilities within five miles of us.
The storage building is three stories.
The basement is 17' high and viewable in places
The first floor is 18' high
The second floor is 21' high
All three levels together total 132,425SF
The building footprint is 44,129SF
There are approximately 70 RV Storage parking spaces along the perimeter: 30 facing Quarry Road, 24 facing the golf course, and 15+ at the east end
The RV lots have a metal canopy or possibly solar displays, it is unclear if there will be reflection to the surrounding areas
The building area has been moved closer to Sweetwater Road
Quarry Road looks like it has been moved closer to the neighbors across the street in some places but it's difficult to be sure by the plans
The building has a 10' easement from the rental homes located on the Sunnyside Stables property
The renderings show what the trees will look like in ten years
There are 34 cameras
The illuminance is measured on a scale
The lights are on all night for security and resemble an airport runway amid the darkened neighborhood
The lights are of a tennis court nature, facing downward, but the illumination will still be visible
The walking trail is between the structure wall and the property line, not much of a view and you would have difficulty getting a horse to walk on it.
The structure is visible from Quarry Road, Sweetwater Road, SR54, SR125, the Bonita Golf Course and the surrounding neighborhoods.
I met several people at the meeting that I had not seen before. As they stood up to speak, it became apparent that these people lived in the neighboring houses close to the proposed storage. And they had not been notified of what was to be built, even though Mr. Karp complained about all the meetings he had presented the project at. He told the neighbors that he planned to speak with them next week. Too little too late!
Mr. Karp's sweet words became bitter after the people spoke against the facility. He demanded that the project be put on the October agenda as an action item to be voted on. And so it was.
