With the National Weather Service predicting heavy rains in the San Diego County area as early as Wednesday, you might be interested in locating sandbags to protect your property.
Well, look no further! Bonita-Sunnyside Fire Station, located at 4900 Bonita Road in Bonita, will be offering both sand and bags for unincorporated residents. You'll need to bring your own shovel and it is recommended to call ahead—619-479-2346—to verify they still have these supplies.
You'll want to fill your bags half-full to 2/3s-full so that they can best be managed to build a dam to keep the running/rising water out of your home or garage. You do not want to fill the bags all the way full as this would be the same as stacking rocks for protection and leave too many gaps.
The CountyNewsCenter has an informative video on how to fill and stack your sandbags for the best results. Gig Conaughton, from the County of San Diego Communications Office, has written an informative ten-point guide to driving in the rain.
Be safe out there!
