Phase Four Utility Undergrounding in the Works for Bonita Road

At the Sweetwater Community Planning Group (SCPG) meeting held on February 4, 2025, agenda action items included Phase Four Utility Undergrounding on Bonita Road. The Planning Committee approved DPW’s proposal to relocate utilities underground from 400 feet southwest of Frisbie Street to the intersection of Bonita Road and San Miguel Road.
This will underground approximately 1,900 feet of overhead utilities on Bonita Road.
The County and SDG&E completed Phase Three in 2012 but for the last thirteen years, there were insufficient funds to move into Phase Four. This has been resolved and the tentative Design start will be in 2028. This will be followed by the Construction start in approximately 2029. The process will then implement a work-zone impact management plan to minimize traffic disruptions for the Sweetwater community.
When questioned, the DPW staff assured the audience that this project would be of zero cost to the community and residents will not be taxed for these utility improvements on their invoices. The funds have already been raised.
