The arrest occurred on November 22 at approximately 3:15 a.m. when agents encountered a group of individuals who had entered the country without authorization. The group was detained and taken to a Border Patrol station for processing.

During the investigation, agents discovered that one of the detainees, who initially claimed to be a Mexican citizen, had provided false information. Further checks revealed that the man was a 32-year-old Salvadoran national and a confirmed member of MS-13.

Chief Patrol Agent Patricia McGurk-Daniel praised the work of her agents, stating, “I applaud our San Diego Sector Border Patrol agents for their diligence and dedication to protecting our country. Preventing dangerous people from entering our communities is our pledge to America.”

The man is currently in the custody of the Department of Homeland Security and faces expedited removal to El Salvador.

The arrest highlights a concerning trend in the region. San Diego Sector Border Patrol agents apprehended 26 known gang members in fiscal year 2024, a 62.5% increase from the previous year.

Border Patrol officials emphasize their commitment to combating illegal activities such as human trafficking and drug smuggling along the nation’s borders. Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity by calling the San Diego Sector hotline at (619) 498-9900.
