Jim Mattis, aged 92, of Bonita, CA, was surrounded by his loving family, as he went to be with our Lord, on June 13, 2024. He was a devoted family man, a military veteran, and a respected Logistic Systems Analyst. Jim, born James Bertrand Mattis in Pennsylvania, was cherished by his family and community.


Jim served in the US Navy for 27 ½ years, enlisting in 1950 and retiring as a Lt. Commander after seeing combat in Korea and Vietnam. He held lifetime memberships with various military associations and continued his service as a Logistics Systems Analyst, traveling extensively for his work.


A true renaissance man, Jim had a passion for education, earning his Master's from San Diego State University and assisting generations of his family with their educational pursuits. He enjoyed playing Bridge, attending plays, the symphony, and exploring the world, particularly Europe.


Jim will be deeply missed by his loving family, including his children Cecilia Mattis, Christopher Mattis, Sean Mattis (Rachel), Rick Mattis (Pilar), Thomas Mattis (Kate), Kathleen Mattis-Wood (Jack), Regina Mattis, Rebecca Bruesch (Davin Lewis), his grandchildren (9), great grandchildren (21), brother David Mattis (Pam), sister Margaret Mattis-Flynn (Richard) and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Aloysius and Clare Mattis, and his son James Frederick Mattis.


Services for Jim will be held at Glenn Abbey Mortuary and Memorial Park in Bonita, CA. Visitation and Rosary will take place on Monday June 24, 2024, from 10:00am to 2:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at 10:00am, followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in San Diego, CA. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Chula Vista Golf Club, Links Room, from 1:00pm to 5:00pm.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to any armed service support organization in honor of Jim Mattis. The Glenn Abbey Mortuary and Memorial Park in Bonita, CA is assisting with the funeral arrangements, Jim's legacy of love, service, and dedication will forever be remembered by those whose lives he touched.
