I Saw It Today: Raw Sewage Flowing Into America

Earlier today, I visited the Tijuana River at the U.S.–Mexico border.
I’ve seen videos. I’ve read reports. But nothing compares to standing there in person—watching raw sewage, garbage, chemicals, plastics, and even diapers flow unfiltered into our country.
And who’s left cleaning it up? You. The U.S. taxpayer.

This is one of the worst environmental disasters in America today. But, it’s been ignored for far too long.
In a few weeks, I’m heading to Washington, D.C. I’ll be meeting with the EPA and pushing for a solution and holding Mexico accountable.
We’ve gotten used to politicians promising solutions, throwing money at the problem and delivering nothing. I refuse to let that happen here.
This is a national issue. The border crisis doesn’t just involve people—it involves pollution. And while border crossings may have slowed recently, the sewage hasn’t. It continues, day after day, untreated and unabated.
We can’t keep allowing another country to pollute our environment and expect Americans to foot the bill. The health and safety of our families, communities, and service members are at risk. Navy SEALs are getting sick. Beaches are being shut down. And San Diego residents are paying the price.
We deserve clean water. We deserve safe coastlines. And we deserve a government that stands up for its people.
