Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) Project

The San Diego County Fire Protection District invites you to attend a public meeting to share your thoughts on the San Diego County Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) Best Practices Report (Report). BESS are technology designed to store and manage energy for later use. It typically uses rechargeable batteries to store energy from various sources, such as the electrical grid, renewable energy sources like solar or wind power, or other power generation methods. On September 11, 2024, the Board of Supervisors directed San Diego County Fire to develop a technical study with recommendations that consider setbacks from residential uses as well as best practice safety standards, including 2023 NFPA 855. The completed report can be accessed at the project website. County Staff is looking for your feedback on the recommended best practices, safety standards, and siting recommendations for new and existing BESS applications. PDS is hosting this virtual public meeting to receive your input on November 14, 2024, at 6:00 PM (registration link provided below).
