Action Needed: Support My Unsafe Camping Ordinace in the Unincorporated Area to Prevent Fires

As Los Angeles County currently deals with multiple large-scale fires, we have seen what can happen when a fire, coupled with high winds and dry conditions, hits high fire risk communities. While there are still pending investigations, small homeless encampment fires may have contributed to starting these large fires we see across LA County.

Just last year, over three hundred small fires were put out in San Diego County. We know that many homeless individuals in our riverbeds and canyons use small warming fires during the winter months. The last thing any of us wants is for someone to die because they started a fire to warm themselves or for the fire to get out of control.

Over the past few weeks, East County constituents have seen numerous red flag warnings due to high winds and have experienced public safety power shutoffs due to high fire risk.

Our unincorporated communities continue to be at an extremely high fire risk, which is why I've asked my colleagues on the San Diego County Board of Supervisors to support my Unsafe Camping Ordinance. This ordinance will empower the appropriate authorities to do more than just cite repeat offenders and protect our communities from dangerous fires.

How You Can Help

I strongly encourage everyone who AGREES with my plan for an Unsafe Camping Ordinance in the unincorporated communities to sign onto my petition and make your voices heard. With our combined efforts, we can truly make a difference.

It's my job to make sure County government works for you. If there is anything my office can do to be of assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out using the contact form on my website or by calling (619) 219-2470.

As always, it's an honor to serve you,

Joel Anderson
